Yeweinisht Mesfin, California Adventure Custodian, Died Homeless in Her Car


Poverty pay at the Disneyland Resort is making international headlines following the release of a searing survey last week on the economic hardships of workers who toil for the mouse. In the wake of findings that showed 85 percent of cast members (as Disney calls its employees) make less than $15 per hour and 11 percent have experienced homelessness in the past two years, the Coalition of Labor Resort Unions announced a living wage ballot initiative. But Yeweinisht Mesfin, an Ethiopian immigrant night custodian at California Adventure, didn’t live long enough to tell the story of her struggles.
